Un enorme iceberg de un billón de toneladas y un tamaño dos veces mayor que Luxenburgo, se ha desprendido este martes de la Antártida, dio a conocer el diario The Guardian.
Según información arrojada por datos satelitales indicaron que el bloque de hielo tiene una superficie de 5 mil 800 kilómetros cuadrados. Ahora el iceberg se encuentra a la deriva en el mar de Weddell.

Según la Agencia Espacial Europea (ESA, por sus siglas en inglés) este se trata de uno de los mayores iceberg que se han desprendido de la masa de hielo antártica desde que comenzaron los registros a comienzos de los 90's.

El desprendimiento de este iceberg podría convertirse en una "amenaza para el transporte marítimo", debido a sus enormes dimensiones.
